On older homes which fit the criteria Sitka offers ferromagnetic scanning in an effort to determine if an underground storage tank is buried on the property. The scan includes visual factory, manual probing and documentation if no tank is found.

Aboveground tanks and oil burning furnaces come in all shapes and sizes and have been used to heat homes on Vancouver Island since the early 1960's. As more modern methods of heating homes become available it may become beneficial to have the AST removed. As part of having an AST removed Sitka offers removal of the tank, disposal of the remaining oil and a report documenting the process.

Underground storage tanks were common installations on homes built before 1965 and can be found in every municipality on Vancouver Island. These tanks had a 20-25 year life expectancy and through the process of corrosion can fail allowing oil to escape the vessel into the surrounding soils. Along with the use of an environmental consultant Sitka offers the removal of underground storage tanks including formal documentation.

After the removal of a UST the soils surrounding the tank are tested by an environmental consultant of the clients choosing. On occasion, one or more of the samples will fail above the residential standard and soil remediation may be required to obtain passing samples. Sitka offers soil remediation services from start to finish including site preparation, backfill and final reporting.
